LFM Concept

Plato once said that music “is a more potent instrument than any other education.” Scientific research shows that musical studies can promote greater high-order thinking and enhance a child’s ability to reason. Parents and educators alike are coming to recognizes that, far from being an expendable frill, music is an essential enrichment to children’s lives.

Many of the schools have and are eliminating “fine arts” from their educational curriculum; there, parents have the responsibility of making absolutely certain their child is given the opportunity to excel in this important aspect of life in general…music. This is where the Little Folks Music concept comes in. LFM is based on the belief and truth that all children are inherently musical and can achieve basic music competence, which is defined as keeping a beat and singing in tune. It is a goal of LFM to nurture the natural enthusiasm for music and movement in every child. We educate parents/caregivers how to encourage the child’s musical growth from a very young age continuing through regularly scheduled lessons.

Ear training is an important aspect of the LFM concept. The best time for students to learn ear training is when they are very young. You may be asking yourself, why is ear training so important? Ear training is important because, it develops greater musicality and confidence. Ear training helps students become better sigh-readers when playing an instrument. Eat training is essential; it’s a basic and is a foundational requirement for becoming a proficient singer.

Matching pitch is important in the LFM concept. There are many ways to practice matching pitches. Very often the very young child is shy when singing in front of a class or in front of the teacher. The LFM concept uses a hand puppet, which is less threatening and creates a friendly atmosphere. If the child is having a hard time matching the pitches given at first, then in order to let the child hear what “matching pitch” is, the teacher will change their own voice to match the child’s pitch. Then as the child begins to hear the matched pitches more easily, it is simpler to lead the child to sing higher and lower notes. Thus having embedded the sounds of the different pitches in the child’s ear.
